Equipping Young People to Make Their Voices Heard

The Challenge and Objectives

In Cité Soleil, Saint-Martin and Bel-Air, young people grow up in contexts where access to information, spaces for expression and civic participation remains limited. Yet they play an essential role in the life and cohesion of their communities.

With Concern Worldwide, TOKAY trained dozens of young community leaders in digital communication and multimedia production, giving them the means to tell their own reality, showcase local initiatives and mobilize their communities.

The objective: train young community leaders in modern communication tools, including video, photography, writing and social media, and encourage them to create civic content, inform their communities and rally young people around sustainable activities and peacebuilding.

Our Approach

The program combined hands-on learning with fieldwork. Participants were trained in photography, video, writing and social media management, with one simple goal: to turn these tools into levers for civic engagement.

As the training progressed, the young people began producing their own content: videos, articles and posts highlighting the daily life, challenges and positive initiatives of their neighbourhoods.

This approach allowed them to move from being mere consumers of information to becoming creators and messengers of information within their communities

The Results

  • Dozens of young leaders trained and self-sufficient in producing and sharing civic content.
  • Greater visibility for the daily life and community initiatives of the targeted neighbourhoods.
  • A local network of young people committed to peace and sustainable development.

The Human Impact

Civic communication driven by communities

For TOKAY, this project reflects a core conviction: communication is strongest when it enables communities to tell their own stories.

“Thanks to this training, I can tell the story of my neighbourhood and encourage other young people to get involved. We are no longer just spectators. We are becoming agents of change.”
